About Zomba Urban
Zomba is one of the districts in the Southern Region of Malawi. The district covers an area of 2580 square kilometers. It borders the districts of Chirazulu, Blantyre, Mulangje, Falombe, Machinga, Balaka and Mozambique to the east.
As for the economy of the Zomba district, it is dominated by agriculture, where the production of corn is considered as the main activity, and tobacco is grown as the main profitable crop. Other crops grown in the district are: rice, cassava, sweet potatoes, peanuts, beans and cajanus cajan. Livestock is still underdeveloped, but cattle, poultry, goats, sheep, pigs and rabbits are still being raised for meat production.in the Zomba district, and especially poultry is raised. Zomba, on the other hand, is one of the few districts with an expanding fish stock. There are about 2600 farmers engaged in fishing in more than 5000 lakes to produce as much as 757 tons of fish per year. In addition, Lake Chilva continues to be the main source of fish in the district.
